A Word about Disaster Relief and the Media
Typically when a disaster strikes, media coverage is intense, relief and humanitarian organizations get extensive coverage and support from the press.
Ironically, it seems that for large disasters, such as the recent Indian Ocean Tsunami from which Asia is still reeling, relief efforts continue long after the media coverage, largely driven by ratings and the curiosity factor also known as the “the rubbernecking effect”, has faded - just when these relief organizations need it most.
